After Inkheart and Dragon Rider, Igraine the Brave, another book by Cornelia Funke is on its way to the big screen
Uncharted Territory and Rise Pictures have signed an agreement to produce together a 3D animated fantasy adventure movie, based on Igraine the Brave, by Cornelia Funke.
“Igraine the Brave” marks the first production supervised by Rise’s new Animation division in Munich. It also calls attention to the company’s increasing focus on developing animation movies.
“This collaboration is an exciting opportunity for Rise — Volker is an icon of the animation and visual effects world,” said Schwarz, adding that “Igraine the Brave” was the ideal project on which to come together.
Originally established in Los Angeles by Gesa Engel and Marc Weigert, Uncharted Territory is now headed by Volker, Engel and Scharbatke, and has set up shop in Nuremberg. And with good reason considering the company’s upcoming projects, which include at least five more German properties. Uncharted Territory’s future plans include several other properties by Funke, including “Still the Wild Chicks,” based on the author’s bestselling book series about a group of young girl friends, as well as a new “Wild Chicks” series.
“It’s a very close, familial, friendly project,” said Gesa Engel, observing that most of the people involved know each other well and have been eager to collaborate.
The film’s score and original songs will be written by Alexander Geringas (Arlo the Alligator Boy).
Synopsis
12-year-old Igraine is the only one in her family who is not interested in magic. Instead, she pursues a headstrong plan to become a knight. Just when her brother accidentally turns their parents into pigs, their beloved home, Pimpernel Castle, is besieged by the knight Rowan Heartless and his master, Osmond the Greedy. They plan to steal her family’s singing books of magic to become all-powerful. It’s up to Igraine to save her family — even if it means facing giants and three-headed dragons. Another interesting property by Funke which is set to become a live-action feature film, is The Ghost Knight. The story is about a boy at a boarding school who sets out to solve a centuries-old mystery while being haunted by vengeful ghosts.
