Lumière and Cogsworth from Disney’s new adaptation of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ look suspiciously like, well… Lumière and Cogsworth
What is Disney doing? After adapting many of their old-time classics into live action, the studio of the mouse seems to be on a role. Or maybe the studio is going on sheer momentum. Either way, it seems like the next adaptation we are going to see on the big screen is Beauty and the Beast–by far, one of my favorite of Disney’s animated movies. This specific live action adaptation of the classic movie from 1991 has been in the making for a very long time – years. Usually, what Disney used the opportunity to make changes in designs and the plot, remove the musical elements, and (though many may beg to defer on this point) take some creative risks.
In this case, however, first images display a rather straightforward translation from the animated to the computer generated. Thus, Lumière and Cogsworth, the candlestick and the clock, respectively, look surprisingly like themselves, that is – like a candlestick and a clock. Not to sure what to make of that. On the one hand, it has the potential to become another “Pete’s Dragon,” which was immensely satisfying, On the other hand, it could end up like another “Snow-white” One thing is for sure, though, and that is that this kid, who grew up on Disney magic, I’ll definitely go see (unless somebody whose opinion matters tells me its absolute rubbish.
