Another breathtaking movie from the studio that created the wonderful “The Secret of Kells” and “Song of the Sea”
We’ve been following Cartoon Saloon’s movies for many years. After all, this wonderful studio has brought us such magical and award-winning movies as “The Secret of Kells” and “Song of the Sea”.
Today, we are delighted to bring you the trailer to a movie we have been waiting for for a very long time from the afore mentioned studio – “Wolfwalkers.” As with its previous movies, the studio draws much inspiration from Ireland and the Irish and Celtic cultures. The movie’s catch phrase, “awaken your magic” says it all. The Studio’s movies bring together the old with the new, and the magical with the mundane, to create captivating stories and movies of breathtaking beauty. One of the reasons Cartoon Saloon manage to achieve this time after time is their adherence to classic two-dimensional animation. Into this mix, the studio pours Celtic designs, loved by so many around the world.
Synopsis
In a time of superstition and magic, a young apprentice hunter, Robyn Goodfellowe, journeys to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the WolfWalkers and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.
The movie is directed by Tom Moore and Ross Stewart, based on a script by Will Collins (who also wrote the script for “song of the sea”). This is also the third collaboration between Tom Moore, one of the founders of Cartoon Saloon and Ross Stewart.
The team of voice actors who lend their voices to the movie is rather anonymous, all except Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones), who plays Robyn’s father, the huntsman.
Sadly, it looks like the movie will not get the respect and love it deserves, let alone proper earnings at the box office due to the COVID 19 crisis and the fact that cinemas all over the world are closed. Plus, even in places were cinemas are open, few are likely to visit. This is especially highlighted because we’re in the winter holiday season, which is usually a busy time for blockbusters.
